AISES National Conference 2012
Anchorage, Alaska, November 1-3
Since 1977 the American Indian Science and Engineering Society (AISES) has been dedicated to increasing the representation of American Indians and Alaska Natives in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM). Through their educational support programs for precollege, college and graduate students, AISES promotes learning and educational advancement in STEM fields while honoring importance of culture and tradition for American Indian and Alaska Native scientists.
Each year AISES holds a national conference where professional development, mentoring, and networking opportunities are made available for American Indian and Alaskan Native students and early professionals. This year's meeting was held in Anchorage, Alaska and convened over 200 current AISES members.
Daniel G. Hernandez, a former JISAO intern and current graduate student in the UW School of Aquatic and Fishery Sciences, represented JISAO at the 2012 AISES Conference Career Fair. College students from tribal colleges and US universities were invited to apply to the JISAO internship program hosted each summer at University of Washington in Seattle.
