orca bowl logoThe 2011 Orca Bowl was held on Saturday, February 26 in the Fisheries Sciences Building on the University of Washington campus.

Orca Bowl brought together teams of high school students from around Washington State and challenges their knowledge of the world's oceans. The competition lasted a full day, with teams competing in a round-robin tournament followed by a double elimination. Students tackled questions in all areas of marine studies, including ocean-related physics, chemistry, geology, biology, social sciences and technology. Students face rapid-fire multiple-choice, short-answer, and team-challenge questions that require strong problem solving skills and close cooperation.

Top prizes included UW Oceanography scholarships and shipboard science experiences. The winning team will travel, all expenses paid, to the National Ocean Sciences Bowl finals at Texas A&M University on April 29 - May 1, 2011. The event also provides opportunities for students to meet university scientists, faculty, staff, and student volunteers.

JISAO's sponsorship of the event makes travel and lodging possible for students coming to Seattle for the competition.
