  • Ocean acidification

Areas of research include the ocean carbon cycle, ocean acidification and atmospheric aerosols. The relatively new area of ocean acidification and its effect on marine ecosystems is a particularly vexing problem because of the substantive lack of knowledge about the subject. The scale of the ocean acidification problem requires a coordinated national research program aimed at specific ocean regions. Aerosol research involves measurements of aerosol properties, continued instrument development, black carbon impact on snow, and synthesis of existing data.
