Marine Ecosystems

  • marine ecosystemClimatic and human impacts on ecosystems
  • Physical, chemical and biological processes

A complex set of mechanisms links the climate to ocean properties and ultimately ecosystem structure and function.  Marine ecosystems worldwide are collapsing due to a number of environmental problems.  JISAO scientists study how climate change might affect important and valuable species in the Bering Sea and Gulf of Alaska. Links between physical, chemical and biological processes are studied, as well as the impacts of climate variability and human impacts on ecosystem dynamics.
